Renal Scan

A renal scan is a nuclear medicine exam that uses an injection of a radioactive compound to check the structure and function of the kidneys.

  • You will need to arrive to your appointment well hydrated.
  • Drink at least 24 to 36 oz. of water, 1-2 hours before the exam.

The pictures will begin right away after the injection. The imaging may take 30-90 minutes. You must not move during the time the camera is taking pictures.
