Venous Duplex Ultrasound

This procedure is performed to evaluate symptoms including leg pain or swelling, excessive varicose veins, shortness of breath or suspected blood clots in your legs and/or lungs.

No special preparation is required for this test. It takes approximately 30-45 minutes. You will not feel any pain; however, you may feel mild pressure from the transducer as the technologist will apply pressure to your veins at various locations on your leg(s).

The Cardiologist will read the ultrasound pictures on the day of your test. If the results are abnormal, your physician will be notified within 24 hours or the next business day and the nurse will contact you. If the results are normal, you will receive a letter within 5-7 days.
